Magda Linette is a Polish professional tennis player who holds the current World No. 53 position in the WTA singles ranking. Born in Poznan, Poland to parents Tomasz Linette, a tennis coach, and Beata Linette, an educator. She started her love of playing tennis from the tender age of 5 years. At her initial stage, she was trained and supervised by her father, who was her first tennis coach.

Early Career Highlights

Magda’s career debut began in 2009 as a youth representing her local club, WKS Grunwald Poznan/ Wojskowy Klub Sportowy Grunwald Poznan, at the junior level.

In June 2010, she won her first professional title at The Pekao Szczecin Open in Poland as a wildcard entrant. By July, she went on to play at the ITF Circuit Tournament finals, held at Torun, Poland and then at Hechingen and Versmold, in Germany, winning the latter two titles.

In February 2011, she became a member of the Poland Fed Cup team. And in May of that same year, she made her debut appearance at the 2011 French Open- Women’s Singles.

2012- Current-

By 2012, she appeared and won at various singles and doubles tournaments held across Europe. And in late October 2014, she won the WTA 125 Ningbo International Open, defeating Wang Qiang in the final, which marked one of the highlights of her career.

At the 2015 US Open, Magda won her first Grand Slam match when she beat Urszula Radwańska in the first round. And by the end of the year, she made it into the First Top 100 rankings of the season, peaking at No. 64 in the rankings.

She was also part of the Polish Olympic Team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.  

Her most outstanding achievement came in 2019, when she won the first edition of the Bronx Open, by beating Camila Giorgi of Italy in the finals which made it her first WTA title. She also cracked the top 50 rankings for the first time when she reached No.45 in the rankings. In August of that same year, she also won the 2019 Manchester Trophy (ITF) singles.

By the start of 2020, her skyrocketing career reached its zenith when she won the Thailand Open in early February, which saw her rise to World No. 33 in the rankings on February 17, her highest till date.

 In 2021, she has made several appearances at the French Open, US Open and Wimbledon with varying results.

According to her coach, Mark Gellard, Magda has always been a good ball striker, mover, and strategist. Her strength lies in her quick movements across the court and since recently she has been focusing on improving the mental aspect of her game. She also has a good, two-handed backhand technique which has inevitably contributed to her success in the court.
